CARROLL COUNTY – Alcohol and speed contributed to an off road vehicle crash that killed a Lafayette man.

25-year-old Derek Hufford died after being ejected when the off road vehicle he was a passenger in rolled over after missing a driveway and hitting a drainage ditch.

Hufford and the driver – 25-year-old Quentin Smith of Lafayette – were not wearing seat belts or helmets.

Conservation Officers charged Smith with operating while intoxicated causing death, and unreasonable speed.

Smith was taken to a Lafayette hospital for evaluation.
