Slick roads, too much speed cause crashes

MIDDLEBURY – A Sturgis man was ticketed after a two-vehicle crash south of Middlebury Monday afternoon.

Elkhart County police say 19-year-old Ivan Sanchez Nunoz of Sturgis was northbound on County Road 35 south of County Road 22. He lost control and slid left of center on the snow covered road, striking a southbound pickup driven by 41-year-old Chad Fitzgerald of Middlebury.

Fitzgerald suffered head pain but was not transported for medical treatment.
Officers cited Nunoz for driving too fast for conditions.

The driver of a box truck lost control on County Road 17 west of Goshen and struck the cement median.

43-year-old William Derringer of Mishawaka was taken to Goshen Hospital for head and neck pain.

No citations were issued.Sturgis
