Tentative contract would give Lakeland teachers 2% raise
By: Tim Murray - Monday, October 28, 2019

LAGRANGE – Lakeland School Corporation teachers would get a 2 percent raise in their base pay under a tentative agreement between the school board and the Lakeland Education Association.

School Board member Bob Murphy outlined the highlights of the one-year agreement saying it would give a 2% raise to the base pay for teachers and split any increases in insurance 50/50 between teachers and the corporation.

Before the board can approve the contract it must take comments from the public. That will happen next Monday evening at Lakeland Intermediate School and Murphy says there will be limits on those comments. Individuals will be limited to one minute each and comments must be addressed to the presiding officer only, not to other board members.

Also last night the board hired Michael Howk to the newly created position of Athletic Department Assistant. The L-E-A questioned the amount of pay originally proposed for the position which was $7,500. That led to the board bringing it back a week later at a salary of $6,125 which passed by a vote of 5-1.
