On The Border: Challenges to security
By: Tim Murray - Tuesday, October 15, 2019

LAGRANGE – LaGrange County Sheriff Jeff Campos toured the Arizona-Mexico border last month at the invitation of the Border Sheriff’s Association.

He told us there are areas on the border where other challenges exist to security.

"The Bureau of Land Management says there's an area there where the wildlife and the plants are protected. They can't put a wall there. The Border Patrol deems that the most dangerous part. You can see where the wall stops, and there's trees and dry river bed."

"During the monsoon season it's full. They have to raise the flood gates and let the water through otherwise the water would knock the wall down. When those are open -- free access. The only thing is barbed wire and that's easy to get through."

Our conversation continues tomorrow when Campos talks about the challenges of crossing the border for those who try.
