United Way Campaign Kick-Off Cook-Off

Attention, area chili cooks! It’s time to register for the United Way of Noble County’s Chili Cook-Off, an event that will kick off 2019 campaign season. The Kick-Off Cook-Off will be held on the lawn at the United Way of Noble County, 119 W. Mitchell Street, Kendallville on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 11:00am – 3:00pm. The chili tasting will begin at 12:00 p.m. with voting to be completed by 2:00pm. Organizers anticipate 20+ entries and hope for a great crowd to sample and vote for their favorite entries.

A panel of local judges will decide the winning entry in each category. Categories will include: Hottest, Heartiest, Best Traditional Style, Best Non-Traditional Style, and will include a “People’s Choice” category – voted on by all chili enthusiasts, and a “Judges’ Choice” category – determined by a secret panel of chili tasters. The best decorated booth in each category will also receive an award.

In addition to tasting a wonderful assortment of chili, plan to bring your lawn chairs and enjoy live music provided by “The Reunion Band,” and participate in the art auction (courtesy of Experiencing the Heart of Kendallville) where the beautifully decorated Adirondack chairs you’ve seen around town will be auctioned off. As an added benefit, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of vendors and the car show in downtown Kendallville!

Chili Cook-Off participants are asked to provide plenty of chili; a warming unit (if necessary); a listing of main ingredients, such as pork, beef, or vegetarian (*secrets are not necessary*); people to serve the chili; business banner or decorative sign and any decorations for the booth (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place booths will be awarded). Participants may also bring other items to share at their booth if they wish. There is no entry fee.

The United Way will provide a table, a simple sign for each table, tasting cups, napkins, spoons, ballots, pencils, and water. The United Way cannot provide any heating sources and electricity is minimal, but experience has shown that the total volume of the chili keeps it warm for the duration of the event.

To be listed on the ballot, please submit a registration form to United Way of Noble County via the website: www.uwnoble.org ASAP. Just click on the Chili Cook-Off picture.
