(STURGIS) - A new specialized transport vehicle has been acquired to serve veterans at the Battle Creek Medical Center.

This comes through a collaborative effort between the St Joseph County Veterans Affairs, Michigan Elks Association and local business leaders. The project was made possible through the generous contribution of the Michigan Elks Association and Full Ride Golf Carts, a long-standing partner in White Pigeon.

The Michigan Elks Association graciously provided the specialized vehicle as a gift to support the facility's mission. To further honor those who served, a local Sturgis-based graphics firm provided a custom patriotic flag wrap at a significant discount. This firm previously collaborated on the design of the facility's wheelchair-accessible cart, continuing their legacy of support for the veteran community.

The vehicle was custom engineered to meet specific requirements identified by VAMC clinical and safety staff. Key features include four forward-facing seats with integrated shoulder safety belts, ensuring the highest level of passenger security. To accommodate the diverse terrain of the Battle Creek campus, the cart is equipped with specialized wheels and tires for safe navigation of both paved streets and unpaved paths.

Further enhancements include a full safety lighting package with headlights and turn signals, an integrated GPS navigation system, and a Bluetooth-compatible sound system.

This new vehicle represents a significant upgrade in mobility and quality of life for our veterans, providing them with a safe, comfortable, and dignified way to enjoy the facility grounds. The partnership between the Michigan Elks Association and local small businesses highlights the deep community commitment to those who have served.
