(STURGIS) - An area teen's Eagle Scout project honors area veterans.
Saturday afternoon at the Sturgis American Legion, Leelan Gold of the Scouting America Troop 402 presented his project. Leelan built 100 birdhouses with the names of veterans on them. The birdhouses will be put into Timm Preserve County Park, Kettles Park Trail Park, Meyer Broadway Park and Plum Lake County Park.
During his presentation, Leelan says he chose this project because of his grandfather Jack Gold who served in the United States Marine Corp, who taught him many valuable lessons he will never forget. Leelan says he created a project that would thank the veterans because many people don't realize how much they do for their community and our country. (LISTEN ABOVE).
Leelan thanked The Three Rivers Home Depot for donating the wood used to build the birdhouses, his family for encouraging him, those who donated cans and bottles to pay for other materials, and Amy Hackman at Lazer Expressions for making the plates with veterans names.
The St. Joseph County Parks Department will put up the birdhouse.
