(LANSING) - Unemployment rates went up during the month of May around Southwest Michigan.
The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget says St. Joseph County's unemployment rate went up from 4.1% to an even 5%.
Cass County jumped from 4% to 4.9%. Branch County went from 3.8% to 4.3% while Hillsdale County saw an increase from 4.4% to 5.2%.
Fifty-seven Michigan counties demonstrated unemployment rate gains during May with a median increase of 0.6 percentage points.
