(THREE RIVERS) - Michigan Gubernatorial candidate Mike Duggan (DUG-an) make a stop in Three Rivers Monday morning.

The event was sponsored by the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce and the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce. It was held in the Three Rivers Chamber meeting room.

Duggan served as the Mayor of Detroit from 2013 until 2025. Prior to that he was the Wayne County Prosecutor and was also the CEO of Detroit Medical Center for eight years.

Duggan, who is running for Governor as an Independent, says he sees the same problems every time he goes to Lansing. He says the environment in Lansing between the Republicans and Democrats in both the Michigan House and the Senate is not good. He says they are not about solving problems. It's about doing whatever they can to get the majority and help them keep the majority. (LISTEN ABOVE).

Duggan says one of the big ways that was shown was last year regarding the Michigan budget. Duggan says last years budget was supposed to be approved by July 1. The Republicans and Democrats fought until October 1. Four thousand schools opened with no budget and not knowing how much they would get from the State. Districts didn't know if they could hire teachers or do things like extra tutoring. Then when they got their budget, Duggan asked what the schools were supposed to do.

Duggan says if he is elected, he would work with both parties to do what is best for the citizens of Michigan.
