(AUBURN) - A fire inside the DeKalb County Jail's electrical panel on Wednesday knocked out power and disabled the facility's backup generator, prompting officials to relocate all inmates to surrounding counties as a precaution. Power was restored around 7 p.m. By Thursday afternoon, heat was fully restored and the elevator was undergoing repairs. A restoration crew remains on-site to handle cleanup and address lingering smoke odor.
The jail is not yet accepting new arrestees. All new arrests are being routed to the Noble County Jail, while current DeKalb County inmates continue to be housed in Noble, LaGrange, and Steuben County facilities
