Indiana Senate Republicans Reject Redistricting Push

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Senate Republicans say they won't move forward with President Donald Trump's call to redraw the state's congressional districts -- a decision that drew swift criticism from Governor Mike Braun and Trump allies. Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray announced Friday that the Senate will not take up the issue during the unusual December session that had been planned. Bray said Republicans spent months discussing the idea but ultimately didn't have the votes to advance it. Lawmakers had been scheduled to return December 1st to consider proposals that could have increased the number of Republican-leaning U.S. House seats ahead of next year's midterm elections. The push followed a campaign from the Trump administration and supporters urging states to adopt more GOP-friendly maps. If this latest decision not to take up redistricting holds, Indiana will become the first Republican-led state to reject national GOP efforts to secure additional congressional seats ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
