(CENTREVILLE) - Two people are dead and one person is in critical condition in two separate crashes.
St. Joseph County Chief Deputy Sheriff Zachary Zuk says on Wednesday evening deputies were called to the area of Constantine Road and Shorewood Road in Fabius Township for a crash.
Deputies determined that a 20 year old woman was driving her car north on Constantine Road when she lost control, struck a guard rail and then went into the southbound lane. The car was then struck on the driver's side by a pick up.
The woman was pronounced dead. It's believed she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Ice and snow are believed to be factors in this incident.
The Three Rivers Police and Fire Departments along with Michigan State Police assisted at the scene.
Then on Thursday just after 6:30 PM, deputies were called to a crash in Sherman Township.
It's believed that an SUV was heading west on Featherstone Road when the vehicle struck a deer and lost control due to the icy roads. The SUV crashed into another SUV traveling east on Featherstone Road.
A 55 year old Sturgis woman was found dead when deputies arrived. A 79 year old Sturgis woman was in critical condition and taken to an area hospital.
Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
