Sturgis girls track team 2nd at D-2 Finals, O’Tey and Romanyk dual champs

(ADA) – It was a good day for the Sturgis girls track team at the Division 2 State Finals, as the Lady Trojans finished second on the day with 34 points. Keyanna O’Tey was State Champion in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters. O’Tey also set a new Division 2 State Record in the 100 meters in a time of 12.03 seconds. In addition, Jillian Romanyk was the State Champion in the adaptive 100 meters and the adaptive shot put, and is the first girl in MHSAA history to earn these titles. Berkley Holtz was sixth in the 800 meters and set a new school record with a time of 2:21.48. The 400 meter relay team, made up of Tenley Banaszak, Kinder Smith, Hannah Garbine and O’Tey, finished third and in a new record time of 49.94 seconds. In addition, the 800 meter relay team of Jackie Flores, Riley Eicher, Smith and O’Tey came in fourth and in a new school record time of 1:46.08. The 3200 meter relay team, made up of Sydney Bir, Tessa Hatt, Kenzie Eicher and Holtz, finished 15th and ran a season best time of 9:59.27. In the Division 2 boys finals, the Sturgis 400 meter relay finished tenth and Brock Fergison was 19th in the high jump.
