July Unemployment Rises Around Southern Michigan

(LANSING) – Counties in Southern Michigan saw their unemployment rates increase from June to July.
According to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget, St. Joseph County had the largest unemployment growth for the month, going from 5.9% to 7.3%. Cass County saw an increase from 5.9% to 6.4%. Branch County rose from 5.3% to 5.6% and Hillsdale County went up from 6.1% to 6.4%.
Michigan’s regional unemployment rates ranged from 5% to 7.9% in July, with a median rate gain of 0.3%.
Wayne Rourke, Labor Market Information Director for the Michigan Center For Data And Analytics says unemployment rate gains across Michigan regions were typical for the month of July.
