(ELKHART COUNTY) – A man is dead following a crash between two vehicles and a suspect is in custody.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office says a moped was heading east on County Road 4 near Delta Court at 2:15 PM Saturday and was rear ended by a car. A passenger on the moped was ejected, while the car dragged the moped into a yard and then drove away.
The driver of the moped, identified as 35 year old James Thoman, and his passenger were both taken to Elkhart General Hospital to be treated for head injuries. Thoman was later pronounced dead from his injuries. No information was given on Thoman’s passenger.
Investigators say that the driver of the automobile was later found. 23 year old Joseph Bailey of Elkhart has been arrested and is being held in the Elkhart County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury.
The crash is still being investigated.
