(CENTREVILLE) – The Langley Covered Bridge is open once again.

The bridge was closed August 4 after a recreational vehicle hit and did damage to one of the height limiters that are at each end of the 282 foot bridge that crosses the St. Joseph River.

The ten foot tall motorhome was heading south and tried to drive under the seven foot tall limiter, ignoring the signs that are placed along the road. No damage was done to the bridge.

St. Joseph County Road Commission Director of Operations Don Preston says they were able to fix the limiter and open the bridge back up on Monday. ...... {LISTEN}.

According to Preston, a Three Rivers man was driving the motorhome, which belonged to his brother, and was taking it to a woman who was going to use it for a temporary residence. Damage to the RV included the sleeper section being peeled from the rest of the vehicle.

The driver was arrested by the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office for not having a valid driver’s license and on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.

Preston says they are always looking for more ways to let people know the limiters are there. ...... {LISTEN}.

Preston says the matter has been referred to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office to review and to determine if restitutions will be sought from the driver.
