Branch Co. Deputy Involved In Shooting

(COLDWATER) – Information has been released regarding an officer involved shooting that took place on Monday.

Branch County Sheriff Fred Blankenship says at 5 PM Monday, a suspect driver failed to stop for a deputy on Central Road near Ferguson Road in Algansee Township, and a chase began. It stopped briefly at the intersection of Kelley Road and State Line Road, when the suspect vehicle left the roadway.

The deputy attempted to take the suspect driver into custody, and it was at this time that the officer involved shooting took place.

The suspect, a 33 year old Camden, Michigan man, fled the scene, but was later apprehended in Indiana, hear the Ohio State line. He was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne for treatment.

A passenger in the vehicle was unharmed.

Blankenship says the investigation has been turned over to the Michigan State Police, and is continuing. Charges are pending in both Michigan and Indiana.

Assisting with the incident were the Michigan State Police, the Indiana State Police, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, the Fremont and Angola Police Departments and Steuben County EMS.
