Sturgis Schools To Take A Step Back Following Failed Millage Proposal

(STURGIS) – Two times this year, a millage request from Sturgis Public Schools has been voted down by the public.

During Monday’s Sturgis Board of Education study session, Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert shared that the proposal failed in February 2024, but received 46% of the vote. Then on August 6, it failed but received 48% of the vote.

Ebert says the projects include fully implementing the new strategic plan; removing cell phones from the classrooms; a change in moving towards from scratch meals; a new program for students who are suspended, along with others. Ebert says the school district must show the community that Sturgis Schools is serious about these programs.
