(STURGIS) – There’s still a little time to make contributions to the Sturgis Electric City Project.
The idea to bring decorative lights to the downtown Sturgis area was discussed several years ago, but halted due to cost. Community Development Specialist Jeff Coney shares how the project got revived and how he became involved. ...... {LISTEN}.
Coney says they have expanded the project and in the process found out that the increased project allows for them to possibly get more money. ...... {LISTEN}.
In addition to the lights, the project now is calling for a food truck hub in the parking lot just south of the Sturges-Young Center For The Arts; the Electric Alley behind Five Lakes Coffee; an interactive website for the Sturgis Downtown Development Authority and QR Codes to give people information and directions to locations around the downtown Sturgis area.
The Newell A. and Grace A. Franks Funds have committed over $125,000 towards the Electric City Project.
Individual citizens can give money through the Patronicity website; and then search for The Electric City Project. Click Here. Donations through the website will be taken until 11 PM Monday.
If the fundraising effort can get $50,000, the State of Michigan will match it.
