(STURGIS) – The budget for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 will be discussed Wednesday by the Sturgis City Commission.

At 5 PM, the Commissioners will have a final budget review, which includes the changes made since the work session held July 17.

Then during the regular meeting, the Commission will be presented with a request to set a public hearing on August 14, prior to the final adoption of the annual operating budget.

During the June 26 meeting, by a vote of 4-3 the Commissioners voted down a motion to approve the millage rate of 11.6689 mills. Mayor Frank Perez cast one of the No votes at that time, and explains why. ...... {LISTEN}.

After some intense discussion, the Commissioners voted 5-2 to set the operating millage at 11.08 mills.

City Clerk-Treasurer Ken Rhodes says at the rate of 11.6689 mills, one mill would generate $300,000 for the City. With the new rate of 11.08 mills, one mill would generate just over $176,000.

Both the final budget review and the regular meeting Wednesday are open to the public.

The City Charter requires the Commission adopt a budget on or before August 20.
