(UNDATED) – Two men who represent St. Joseph County have commented on the arrest of an undocumented man for allegedly assaulting two girls.

Republican State Senator Jonathan Lindsay says his prayers remain with these young girls and their family who have been affected by this crisis. He also commends the many law enforcement agencies for their diligence in capturing this man.

Lindsay says President Joe Biden’s border crisis is putting people from every corner of the country at risk. He says Michiganders are paying the price for this turmoil, and Governor Gretchen Whitmer also refuses to acknowledge the severity of this issue.

Republican U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg says in a statement that this situation is just another painful reminder of the consequences of an unsecure border.

On March 20, the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Sweet Lake Mobile Home Park east of Sturgis. They determined a man broke into the house and sexually assaulted two girls under the age of 13.

The 25 year old Sturgis man was arrested April 5 in Fort Wayne. He is charged with two counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct – person under the age of 13; first degree home invasion; and he is also being held on an immigration detainer.

Both Lindsay and Walberg says they will continue to fight to protect the rights of Michigan residents.
