(COLDWATER) – The suspect arrested in connection with a Coldwater Township stabbing incident has been arraigned.
According to Branch County District Court officials, 19 year old Jaden Peever of Battle Creek has been arraigned on a charge of assault with intent to commit murder.
Peever was arrested Monday in Battle Creek and transported to Coldwater. The arrest warrant for Peever was issued following an incident March 1 at a house in the 200 block of Paradise Island Drive in Coldwater Township.
Michigan State Police were called to the house to investigate a stabbing. They found a 28 year old Ohio man who had been stabbed multiple times and was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery for serious internal injuries.
During their investigation, troopers determined the victim came to the house to do work for the owner. The victim also previously dated 24 year old Oshaegh McAtee, who is currently dating Peever. A fight broke out between the two men and Peever stabbed the victim. Then McAtee and 19 year old Caoimhe McAtee helped Peever leave the area.
The victim tried to defend himself with a pistol, and was able to get a shot off, but did not strike anyone.
Peever’s bond is set at $150,000. He is scheduled to have a probable cause hearing on April 11 and a preliminary examination on April 16.
Both of the McAtee’s were arraigned Monday on charges of accessory after the fact to a felony and obstruction of justice. They are each being held on a $50,000 bond.
