(STURGIS) – The Sturgis City Commission received an update on a supplemental millage proposal that Sturgis Public Schools will be bringing to the public.

Wednesday night, Sturgis Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert addressed the Commission, sharing that the State assumes schools collect either 18 mills or as close to 18 mills as they can on non homestead properties, such as second homes and businesses.

The supplemental millage request will be presented to voters in the Sturgis School District on February 27, which is the Presidential Primary. Ebert says they chose that day so the School District wouldn’t have to pay for the cost of an election.
