(THREE RIVERS) – Two people were injured and 14 families displaced following a fire Sunday night in a Three Rivers apartment building.

The Three Rivers Fire Department was called at 6:25 PM to an apartment fire in the 600 block of South Erie Avenue. While part of the firefighters started to battle the blaze, others began to search the building.

Fire officials say two people were removed and taken to Beacon Three Rivers Health to be treated for injuries. Other residents were treated and released at the scene.

Investigators say the fire was contained to one apartment, however extensive smoke damage was reported throughout the building. All utilities had to be shut off.

Three Rivers City Hall was opened up for the families to stay, while St. Joseph County Victim Services along with the American Red Cross work to find the 14 families a temporary place to stay.
