(HOWE) – A crash between a pick up and a law enforcement vehicle injured a Sturgis man Saturday afternoon.
The Indiana State Police say 33 year old Jamie Espinal-Albor of Sturgis was driving a pickup north on County Road 100 East. He failed to stop at the intersection of State Road 120, and pulled into the path of an eastbound LaGrange County Sheriff’s SUV, that had both its lights and siren on. The deputy was responding to a separate call and struck the pickup.
The Sheriff’s vehicle went off the road and stopped in a nearby ditch. The pickup overturned and rested on the roof.
Espinal-Albor was removed from the truck by the Howe Fire Department. He was then flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne with what first responders are calling serious injuries.
The deputy, 34 year old Zachary Anderson of Middlebury, along with his K-9 partner, were not injured in the crash. Anderson was taken to Parkview LaGrange Hospital to be examined.
The crash is still under investigation.
