(CENTREVILLE) – A temporary restraining order against a Centreville apartment complex will remain in effect.

A follow up hearing was held Wednesday regarding the Mill Race Apartments. On December 29, Judge Jeff Middleton issued a temporary restraining order after hearing testimony about a situation at the complex which included flooding in the buildings from broken pipes and no heat. At that time, the Village of Centreville had shut the water off at the building and the street.

The St. Joseph County United Way and St. Joseph County Emergency Services helped find and pay for temporary housing for residents who needed it.

On Wednesday Middleton heard testimony from Plumbing and Mechanical Inspector John Dobberteen; Ronald Bellaire, the Electrical Inspector for Centreville, and Joe Wickey, the Centreville Building Official. They shared their concerns about letting residents back into their apartments if they were not safe and repairs haven’t been made.

Two residents of Mill Race also testified, and said they do want to go back, but only if everything is safe.

After taking everything into consideration, Middleton made the following decision. ...... {LISTEN}.

Middleton says if a further hearing is needed it will be held on January 10 at 3 PM.
