(MILTON TOWNSHIP) – A one vehicle crash claimed the life of the driver.

Michigan State Police from the Niles Post say an SUV was driving east on Bertrand Street near Batchlor Drive in Milton Township at 7:44 PM Wednesday. The vehicle lost control, veering off the road and striking a tree sideways.

The driver, a 65 year old Niles man, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing his seat belt.

Assisting Troopers were the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, the Niles Township Fire Department and the SMACS Ambulance Company.

The crash remains under investigation.
