(LANSING) – Jobless rates around Southwest Michigan went up slightly from September to October.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget says unemployment in both St. Joseph County and Hillsdale County went up two-tenths of a percent from 4.1 in September to 4.3 in October.

Branch County also had an increase in unemployment of two-tenths of a percent, rising from 3.8 to an even 4 percent. Cass County remained at 3.9 percent unemployment from September to October.

The statewide unemployment rate stayed the same at 3.7 percent from September to October.

Wayne Rourke, Associate Director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives says Michigan’s regional labor markets displayed little change during the month of October. He says payroll jobs advanced modestly in most metro areas over the month.
