(SHERWOOD TOWNSHIP) – A one vehicle crash has landed a Coldwater woman behind bars.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says just before 1:30 Sunday afternoon, 39 year old Amber Persails was driving her pick up east on Riley Road near the Riley Dam in Sherwood Township. The investigation determined that Persails lost control of her pick up as it attempted to round a curve.

The truck went out of control, went off the road and crashed into a utility pole. The pole, which held a transformer and telephone boxes on it, was severed.

When they arrived, deputies found power lines hanging on the truck. They also found that Persails’ 15 month old twins were passengers in the truck and were not in child safety seats. They were taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital to be evaluated. Authorities also contacted the Department of Health and Human Services and Child Protective Services.

Persails is being held in the Branch County Jail on two charges of child endangerment, along with a charge of felony driving while intoxicated third offense causing an accident and high blood alcohol content.

Assisting at the scene were Life Care Ambulance, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and employees with Union City Utilities.
