July Unemployment Rates Mixed In Southern Michigan

(LANSING) – July unemployment rates were mixed around Southern Michigan.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget says St. Joseph County was the only county in the area that had an increase, going from 4.1 percent unemployment in June to 5.3 percent in July. That’s a jump of 1.2 percent.

Branch County remained at 4.5 percent from June to July. Cass County had a drop in unemployment from 4.8 percent to 4.5 percent, which is a decrease of three-tenths of a percent.

Hillsdale County went from an unemployment rate of 5 percent in June to 4.8 percent in July, a drop of two-tenths a percent.

Overall, the State’s unemployment rate dropped from 4.8 percent in June to 4.3 percent in July, a decrease of a half a percent.

Wayne Rourke, Associate Director of the Bureau Of Labor Market Information And Strategic Initiatives says for the most part, Michigan’s labor market was stable in July, with modest jobless rate reductions occurring throughout multiple regions over the month.
