Jobless Rates Go Up In July Around NE Indiana

(INDIANAPOLIS) – July unemployment rates were up from June figures around Northeast Indiana.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development reports that LaGrange County’s unemployment rate increased from 2.2 percent in June to 2.7 percent in July. That’s an increase of one-half a percent.

Steuben County saw their unemployment rise three-tenths of a percent from 2.2 to 2.5 percent. That ties them with Wells, Ohio and Dubois Counties for second lowest in the state for July.

Noble County’s unemployment rate went from 3 percent to 3.4 percent, an increase of four-tenths of a percent. Elkhart County went up from 2.4 to 2.7 percent, which is an increase of three-tenths of percent. DeKalb County jumped up four-tenths of a percent from 2.5 to 2.9 percent.

The highest unemployment rate in Indiana during July was Howard County, at 5.7 percent, which is down from 6.5 percent in June.

Statewide, the unemployment rate in Indiana was 2.6 percent, up from 2.4 percent in June. The National unemployment rate was 3.5 percent, down from a June figure of 3.6 percent.
