(UNDATED) – One person was injured when the car they were riding in struck a tree.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department says 42 year old Lancer Peck of Dowagiac was driving north on Dailey Road near Deerfield Lane at 6:20 Tuesday morning when he fell asleep behind the wheel. His car went off the roadway, striking a tree.

Deputies say a passenger in the car, Ryan Peck, was taken to Niles Hospital by Pride Care Ambulance to be treated for the injuries he received. No word was given on if Lancer Peck was injured. Both individuals were wearing their safety belts.

Assisting at the scene were the Edwardsburg Fire Department, and the Ontwa Township Police Department.
