(NOTTAWA TOWNSHIP) – The Nottawa Road Bridge is closed for at least the next three months.

The bridge was officially closed Monday by the St. Joseph County Road Commission and the Michigan Department Of Transportation, so that it can be reconstructed. The bridge was built 60 years ago, and spans the Prairie River.

MDOT says the bridge is one of 19 in Michigan that is being included in their new bridge building project. It’s a state initiative that is consolidating bridge projects into one. This allows the State to use the same contractor to help quicken the permitting process, and allow for the work to be done faster and for less money.

Work on the Nottawa Road Bridge is expected to cost $1 million.
