(CENTREVILLE) - A recall effort against White Pigeon Village President Jesse Royce has stalled.

St. Joseph County Clerk Lindsay Oswald announced Wednesday that a recall petition submitted by Jerome Kash is insufficient, because it does not have the required number of valid signatures. Oswald says the petition needed to have 108 valid signatures for the recall to proceed. Kash submitted 126 signatures, but 21 of them were identified as invalid. That makes the total valid signatures 105, which is three below the required number.

The signatures that were deemed invalid were for a number of reasons. The majority of them, 12, were for a form error. There were 5 people who signed that did not live in the jurisdiction that the recall would have covered, while the others were invalid for such reasons as signature error; a date that appears to be written by someone other than the signer and an address that appears to be written by someone other than the signer.

Kash alleges that Royce compromised ethics by using village equipment and employees to do personal work.
