(CENTREVILLE) – White Pigeon Community Schools will have a new member of the team when the 2022-2023 school year starts.

During their recent meeting, the St. Joseph County Commission voted in favor of a five year contract agreement between the school and the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department for White Pigeon Schools to have a resource
officer.

The agreement will have the resource officer contracted to the school for nine months, then for three months they would work as a patrol officer for the St. Joseph County Parks and Recreation Department. This would be a 40 hour a week position.

The officer’s salary would be $75,000 with White Pigeon Schools paying 80 percent of the salary and the County Parks and Recreation paying the remainder. St. Joseph County Administrator Teresa Doehring says there are some grants that are being looked into that would help lower the cost for the school.
