(COLDWATER) – A Sturgis man has been sentenced for his part in a hit and run crash that killed a 13 year old boy.

Branch County Circuit Court personnel say on Monday, 43 year old Daniel Silich was sentenced to 13 to 25 years in prison. In April he plead no contest to charges of manslaughter with a motor vehicle, failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death and tampering with evidence. Eight other charges against Silich were dismissed as part of the plea deal.

Silich was driving on Ralston Road in Sherwood Township April 5, 2021 when he struck 13 year old Landen Risner, his 14 year old sister and his 7 year old brother. The siblings were riding their bikes on the side of the road when they were struck. Silich then left the scene.

All three of the children were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. Landen Risner died two weeks later.

Silich was arrested in May 2021 following an investigation by the Michigan State Police.

Court officials say Silich will serve between 9 and 15 years on the charges of manslaughter with a motor vehicle and failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault resulting in death. He was given a consecutive sentence of four to ten years for the evidence tampering charges.
