(UNDATED) – An organization in Northeast Indiana is holding an event to support victims of sexual assault.

Northeastern Center, Inc. is inviting the community to be part of their first annual Break The Silence Walk on Wednesday, April 27 at 6 PM. The walk will begin at the LaGrange First Church of God, and end at the LaGrange County Courthouse Pavilion.

This is the first year for the event and will include: a raffle, a ‘What Were You Wearing?’ art installation, speakers from the community, and booths from various organizations that support sexual assault victims in the area.

Break the Silence will be held on Denim Day, an international day of action and awareness. Everyone is encouraged to wear denim to combat victim-blaming and bring awareness and education to others regarding sexual violence. The day came about due to a rape trial in Italy, where the verdict was overturned because the victim was blamed for her assault due to the tight jeans she was wearing.

All the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Center. There is no cost to participate, however donations are appreciated and can be made online. Click Here.

Additional information for the event can be found at the Northeastern Center website. Click Here.

Northeastern Center, Inc. has been serving the people of LaGrange, Noble, Steuben and DeKalb Counties for over 45 years. The agency’s mission is to help individuals achieve emotional and mental wholeness through accessible, affordable, and quality behavioral health services.
