(STURGIS) – A suspect has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a women.

Sturgis Deputy Director of Public Safety Damon Knapp says at 9:20 PM Friday, Sturgis Police were sent to investigate a suspicious situation in the 200 block of Memorial Drive. When they arrived, officers found a woman with significant facial injuries.

During their investigation, police learned that a male suspect had assaulted the woman and attempted to stab her. Officers arrested a 35 year old Sturgis man on a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.

He is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail, pending his arraignment in District Court.
