(OVID TOWNSHIP) – A one vehicle crash in Branch County's Ovid Township claimed the life of a Coldwater man and injured his wife.

Branch County Sheriff John Pollack says deputies were called to Centennial Road, just north of Shady Oaks Drive around 9:45 AM Tuesday. Officers found 80 year old Gary Burkhardt unconscious, and 80 year old Barbara Burkhardt injured. The Lakeland Fire Rescue and Life Care Ambulance were also called to the accident sight. They removed Gary Burkhardt and started CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Barbara Burkhardt was taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Investigators determined that Gary Burkhardt was driving the vehicle on Centennial Road, when the car left the roadway and struck a tree. Both of the Burkhardt's were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
