(COLDWATER) – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is expanding their partnership with local libraries.

Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, Michigan's Chief Medical Executive, says the libraries will be offering free, at home COVID testing kits to Michiganders. These are just one more tool to keep the communities safe. She says testing has become extremely convenient with many locations and the increased availability of over the counter tests.

Bagdasarian says the MDHHS recommends Michiganders test if traveling. Additionally, receiving the COVID-19 vaccine remains one of the most effective ways to prevent severe illness and disease. She says as we enter the time of year when families will be spending more time in group settings, with extended and/or vulnerable family members and friends, these test kits can be a valuable tool to prevent the spread of the virus when returning to daily activities.

Participating libraries in our area include the Waldron District Library in Hillsdale County. Also participating are the Nottawa Township Library, the Centreville Library and the White Pigeon Township Library, all in St. Joseph County. The St. Joseph County libraries will have their test kits soon.

Test kits are limited at each location and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Michiganders are asked to take one kit per person, up to five per household. Free at home testing kits are also available online. Click Here.

They are also available for select zip codes from Project Act. Click Here.
