(GIRARD TOWNSHIP) – Authorities say a pole barn fire in Branch County's Girard Township was caused by a wood burning stove.

The Coldwater Fire Department was called to 1061 Bell Road at 9:29 Saturday morning and found a pole barn with heavy fire and smoke coming from the building. The Union City and Tekonsha Fire Departments were called in to help put out the blaze.

The property is owned by Daniel Sherer.

Coldwater Fire Marshal Steve Trall says his investigation determined the fire was started by a wood burning stove in the pole barn. Damage estimates are reported at $150,000. No one was injured in the fire.

Also helping at the scene were the Branch County Sheriff's Department, Branch County Victim's Services, Lifecare Ambulance and Consumers Energy.
