(PORTER TOWNSHIP) – Two people were injured in an off road vehicle accident.

The Cass County Sheriff's Department says deputies were sent out at 7:20 PM Tuesday to investigate a single vehicle injury crash that happened in the median between Sunset Boulevard and Wayne Street in Porter Township.

The initial investigation determined that 49 year old Chad Bowman of Union was operating an off road vehicle in the median. Bowman attempted to make a sharp u turn, which caused him to lose control of his vehicle and it overturned.

Bowman was evaluated at the scene by SEPSA emergency personnel, and then transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for non life threatening injuries. 55 year old Steven Russel of Elkhart was a passenger on the vehicle. He refused any medical treatment.

Seatbelts were worn by both individuals at the time of the crash, which is still under investigation.

The Porter Township Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
