(STURGIS) – A police chase Friday night ended with the arrest of two people.

Sturgis Deputy Director of Public Safety Damon Knapp says at 11:40 PM Friday, Sturgis Police observed a Buick Rendezvous heading south on South Centreville Road, which had been reported stolen earlier that day. Police attempted to stop the vehicle near the intersection of South Centreville and Fawn River Roads.

The vehicle went east on Fawn River Road, with police in pursuit. The chase then went north on Lakeview Avenue, until the driver lost control near Kelly Road, crashing into a guard rail. The driver and passenger exited the vehicle and ran away, but were apprehended after a brief chase.

The driver is being held on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing and also had an active arrest warrant for a probation violation. The female passenger is charged with resisting and obstructing. Both are being held in the St. Joseph County Jail.

Sturgis Police were assisted by the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department and the Michigan State Police.
