More Adult Use Marijuana Payments Coming To Southern Michigan

(LANSING) – More communities in Southern Michigan will be receiving money from the sale of recreational marijuana in the State.

The Michigan Department of Treasury says that Branch County will be receiving $451,627.52. The City of Coldwater is getting $338,720.64 while the Village of Quincy will receive $112,906.88.

Cass County will be receiving $225,813.76. The City of Edwardsburg and the Village of Cassopolis will each receive $112,906.88.

Hillsdale County will get $282,276.20. The Village of Reading is receiving $169,360.32 while the Village of Camden is going to be getting $112,906.88.

The money is coming from the Marijuana Regulation Fund, which is a part of the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act. In total, more than $42.2 million will be distributed to 62 cities, 15 villages, 33 townships and 53 counties. Each eligible municipality and county will be receiving more than $56,400 for every licensed marijuana retail store and microbusiness located within its jurisdiction.

According to the State Treasury, in the 2021 fiscal year, more than $111 million was collected from the 10 percent adult-use marijuana excise tax. There was over $1.1 billion in total adult-use marijuana sales in Michigan during the year.

Additionally, the Michigan State Treasury says $49.3 million has been given to the Michigan School Aid Fund for K-12 education, and another $49.3 million was sent to the Michigan Transportation Fund.
