Allen Connelly Named LaGrange Citizen Of The Year

(LAGRANGE) – Tuesday was a busy day for the 2021 LaGrange County Corn School.

In addition to the parade, the Midway, the food and the first night of the 2021 Corn School Queen Pageant, another long time tradition took place.

During a break in the Queen Pageant, the 2021 Citizen Of The Year was named, This year's recipient is Allen Connelly. He thanked the community for the award, and gave a special thanks to his wife for allowing him to be involved in everything he has been over the years. ...... {LISTEN}.

Connelly is a veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1964 to 1966. Since that time, he has served the American Legion in various capacities, serving as a local, district and State officer. From the local LaGrange American Legion Post #215, he has served in a number of offices and as Commander. He was also awarded an Honorary Lifetime membership in 2006.

In addition, Connelly has been a 25 year member of the LaGrange Volunteer Fire Department, a longtime member of the Lakeland School Board, as well as a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of LaGrange.

For over 18 years Connelly has served as LaGrange County's Veterans Service Officer where he is an advocate of concerns for veterans. He has become a clearing house for services, and often goes the extra mile for his fellow veterans who need assistance in securing the benefits they are due and were promised by a grateful nation.
