(PAW PAW) – The man who is accused of hitting a woman with his car and then moving her body was in court Thursday afternoon.

Van Buren County District Court officials say 29 year old Colby Martin of White Pigeon was arraigned on charges of manslaughter with a motor vehicle; failure to stop at the scene of an incident when at fault resulting in death; and concealing the death of an individual. His bond was set at $300,000.

Investigators with the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office say Martin struck 64 year old Melody Rohrer with his car Monday as she was walking in the 84,000 block of County Road 215 in Van Buren County's Hamilton Township. Martin then moved Rohrer's body, leaving it in a wooded area in St. Joseph County.

Deputies found evidence at the scene that Rohrer had been walking in the area, and that she had been hit. The investigation led officers to Martin, who eventually told police where Rohrer's body was, and they were able to recover her Tuesday afternoon.

Martin is scheduled to be back in court on October 6.
