Sturgis Man Arrested Following Shooting Incident

(STURGIS) – A suspect is in custody following a shooting incident.

Sturgis Director of Public Safety Ryan Banaszak says his department was called to the area of the Sturgis Meijer Store at 408 South Street at 4:21 PM Friday for a report of a shooting. Officers arrived and interviewed the victim who was not injured.

Police were able to develop a suspect. They found the 25 year old Sturgis man in the 300 block of North Nottawa Street and take him into custody without incident.

The suspect is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail on several felony charges including Assault With Intent To Do Great Bodily Harm, Felony Firearms and Reckless Discharge Of A Firearm.

Assisting were the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department and the Michigan State Police.
