Bicyclist Injured In Hit And Run Accident

(MASON TOWNSHIP) – Cass County authorities are investigating a hit and run accident between an automobile and a bicycle.

Sheriff Richard Behnke says his department was called to investigate an incident that happened at 9 AM on July 5 on Calvin Center Road, north of Starbrick Street in Mason Township.

Deputies say a white Chevy Malibu was heading south on Calvin Center Road when it struck 76 year old Howard Watson Jr., as he was bicycling on the side of the road. Watson was thrown from his bike, and landed in a ditch. The automobile continued heading south.

Watson was taken to Elkhart General Hospital to be treated for his injuries. Assisting deputies at the scene was the SEPSA Ambulance
Service.

The Malibu is believed to be between a 2008 and 2012 model.

The crash is still under investigation. If anyone has information on the incident, they are asked to call Cass County Central Dispatch at 269-445-2484.
