South Bend Women Killed In Cass County Crash

(POKAGON TOWNSHIP) – A two vehicle crash claimed the life of a South Bend women.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke says at 4:26 PM Sunday, his deputies were called to the scene of a two vehicle crash at M-51 south of Crystal Springs Road in Pokagon Township.

Investigators determined that 43 year old Denise Lamb of South Bend was driving south on M-51 when she swerved into oncoming traffic and collided head on with a north bound vehicle driven by 26 year old James Karasek Sr. of Edwardsburg.

Lamb was pronounced dead at the scene.

Karasek Sr. and his passenger 27 year old Gina Karasek were both injured and taken to St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment. Another passenger, 1 year old James Karasek Jr. was not injured, but was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center as a precaution.

Assisting deputies were the Pokagon Tribal Police, the Pokagon Township Fire Department, Pride Care Ambulance and the SMCAS Ambulance Service.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation. All occupants were wearing their safety belts.
