(COLDWATER) – Sentence has been handed down to a man following a shooting incident that happened last Fall.

Branch County Circuit Court personnel say 28 year old Travis McCann was given a sentence of nine months in jail after he entered a guilty plea in March to a charge of aggravated stalking and to a charge of possession of less than 25 grams of a controlled substance from an unrelated case. By entering the guilty pleas, the Branch County Prosecutors Office agreed to drop charges of felony firearm, assault with a dangerous weapon and discharging a weapon from a vehicle.

On November 12, 2020, just after 12 AM, McCann went to a house in the 900 block of West Colon Road in Branch County's Matteson Township. His wife and their children were living there, and McCann became upset his wife's boyfriend was at the house.

McCann's wife went out to tell him to leave. As he started to go, McCann allegedly fired a gun in the air. No one was injured and McCann drove away. He went through White Pigeon and was stopped and arrested a short time later in LaGrange County. A firearm and suspected drugs were found in the vehicle.

McCann will also be on a mandatory five years probation for the aggravated stalking charge, and two years probation for drug possession.

Charges are also pending against McCann in St. Joseph County and LaGrange County.

Two friends of McCann are also facing charges after he tried to talk them into convincing his wife to drop the charges against him. Those conversations were recorded by jail personnel.
